Glen
Tong
has had ideas swimming in his head all his life. Ideas
to do with art.
But it was only when he was in his forties, when he
decided to make art a career, that those ideas began
to manifest.
His work is quite versatile, and varies from the figurative,
voluptuous forms in quirky poses rendered in charcoal
(his first love) to the abstract - mixed media work
with a subtle Asian influence.
His
love of Japanese culture, in particular, has had a considerable
influence on his work with the emphasis being on minimalism,
clean lines, pure color and form. The square is a significant
component in his work.
South African born, of Chinese descent, he ran a clothing
business for many years with his partner at the time,
designer Catherine Moore. They have two daughters, Aimee-Li
and Caitlin-Mae.
His work can be seen at the Red Gallery, Hout Bay Gallery,
Lisa King Gallery and Galerie de Lyons.
